routing and the Accept header

Reported by Xavier Noria | August 15th, 2010 @ 09:05 PM | in The Rails 3 Way

Section 2.2.10 correctly says that the Accept request header can be set to specify a format.

Two things here:

  • The name of the HTTP header is "Accept", not "HTTP-Accept".

  • If the header contains "/" then HTML format is assumed, no negotiation is attempted. If you send "Accept: application/xml, /" you won't get XML, but HTML.
